Harnessing The Power Of The Diaspora: The Right To Vote
At the United Nations General Assembly UNGA 79TH side event, Kay Anifowose was a featured guest speaker on News Central’s Town Hall Series at new York, where he represented the NPG Community in a discussion centered around the theme Harnessing the Power of the Diaspora: The Right to Vote.
He alongside other speakers like Dr. Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili, Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and others provided insights on the importance of equipping the diaspora with the right to vote.
In his address, Anifowose highlighted three crucial points:
First, he underscored the significant economic contributions Nigerians in the diaspora make to their homeland and the United States, emphasizing the vital role they play in both nations’ growth.
Second, he called on the highly educated Nigerian diaspora, particularly those with expertise in law and policy, to step forward and actively participate in shaping legislation. He stressed that by becoming decision-makers themselves, they can champion policies that benefit both the diaspora and Nigerians at home.
Lastly, Anifowose stressed the necessity of strategic collaborations and partnerships with established organizations. These partnerships, he noted, are essential for making it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora—especially in the US—to exercise their voting rights and participate fully in civic activities.
Thank you News Central for leading such an important conversation and looking forward to partnership and collaboration in the future.
